Don’t Give Up!

Have you ever felt like there are situations and circumstances in your life that you’ve been praying for what feels like forever?

And not only does it seem like the situation is not getting better, but it’s getting worst.

Recently, I kept hearing the same message from different places—on a commercial, on YouTube, in a letter that I got in the mail, and they all said, “Don’t give up! Don’t give up! Don’t give up!” By the third time I’d heard it, I started paying attention.

I can tell you that there was a six-year period in my life that I prayed one Scripture consistently. I was going through something that felt like it just wouldn’t let up. I felt like if I gave up or gave in to that thing that it would have “taken me over.”

But what could I do?

In Christian circles, we hear things like:

“The Word works!” and it does.

Or when we have a problem, “Put the Word on it!”

And it’s true, but as simple as that sounds many Christians need to know exactly WHAT to do with these statements.

Over that six-year period, the Lord gave me…

2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV to pray.

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

So every time doubt, fear, and those fiery darts came into my mind I would say, “I take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus!”

And some of you might be thinking, “Six years—what! That’s a long time.” And others might be saying, “Only six years. I’ve been praying for over 20 for this thing to change.”

Either way. Don’t allow the enemy to make you think that your prayers are not effective.

James 5:16b KJV says,

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

So, keep praying—meaning put the Word on it. Literally pray the Word.

God says in Isaiah 55:11 NKJV…

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Sometimes we pray amiss. Sometimes we don’t know what to pray. So, pray the Word.

Jeremiah 1:12b ASV says,

…for I watch over my word to perform it.

I believe He’s waiting to hear His children speak His Word, so that He can do it!

So don’t be weary…keep praying. Our God is a good God.

And, yes, I know there are times it feels so bad that perhaps you feel like you can’t pray then—pray in the Spirit.

Romans 8:26-27 ESV

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Can’t speak? Realize that God even understands our groanings.

And just like me, perhaps you’ll look up years later and realize that God did it!

  • Your spouse and your children are saved.
  • Your relationship is reconciled.
  • Your body is healed.
  • Your finances are fixed.
  • You’re about to be married.
  • You’re delivered trauma.
  • And so many other blessings.

Then you can say that the Word works. But don’t wait! Say it in anticipation of what He’s about to do in your life.

Until next time, speaking the Word in faith, that’s the point of purpose.
