Last time we talked about how Changing Clothes — removing the filthy clothes of shame, pain, hurt, rejection that the enemy uses to try to keep us from knowing our true identity in Christ.
In the natural, anyone can get cleaned up, can change clothes, fix their hair, and “look good.”
But changing clothes and spraying on a cologne or perfume in the natural won’t transform your life spiritually.
Let’s look at Romans 12:1-3 NASB 1995.
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
We were created in the image and likeness of God, so it’s time to break every scheme the enemy has used to try to conform you to any other image.
How do you destroy the schemes of the enemy? One way is to renew your mind.
Many of us can quote Romans 12:2, but are we doing it constantly?
Let’s talk about TV for a moment. I wonder how much it costs to put one commercial on prime-time television.
I’m sure it’s a lot, but no matter. The real question is why would organization be willing to pay that much (whatever it is) to put a commercial on TV.
The answer: It works!
The world understands that repetitive advertising works. Whether you’re paying attention or not, if the TV is on and you’re hearing a message over and over again you’ll begin to memorize it whether you want to or not.
The challenge comes when and if you begin to internalize something that’s not of God or simply isn’t good for you.
Then what!?
So, if we’re constantly being bombarded with messages that are not on point with the Bible and we know that…
Romans 10:17 NASB 1995, says…
So, faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Are we hearing and hearing something, not to mention, seeing something that is NOT by the word of God?
Of course, we are. Again, we need to combat worldly messages and the enemy’s schemes by renewing our mind.
And if commercials are trying to “renew” our minds daily, how much more should override those messages—renew our minds with the Word of God.
To renew means to make like new, to restore freshness, vigor, or perfection. I believe it means to get the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16 ESV says,
“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
We have the mind of Christ, so don’t let anything stand in your way!
Do your part…
Humble yourself, confess any known sin, repent, forgive, break any allegiances that are not of God—be obedient to the Holy Spirit and renew your mind.
Then…
Ask the Lord to break off anything that is trying to keep you from using your gift, anything trying to stop your purpose, anything trying to thwart your destiny.
Until next time, renewing our minds, that’s the point of purpose…see you next time.
